On Friday Laura Velasquez announced she was leaving FOX 17 after more than three years with the station.

“It’s been an absolutely amazing ride” Velasquez said in a statement. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the most talented hardworking and simply nice people in the business.”

Velasquez said she plans to take some time off and “recharge her batteries.”

“I’m extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work at FOX 17” she said. “I will truly miss everyone here.”

FOX 17 News Director Kevin Timm said Velasquez “brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her job.”

“We wish her all the best in her future endeavors” Timm said in a statement.

Velasquez joined FOX 17 in May 2014 as a reporter and fill-in anchor. Before that she was a reporter and weekend morning anchor at WZZM 13 in Grand Rapids.
