Alligator Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Franklin County Florida United States. It is located on a peninsula on the eastern side of Apalachicola Bay about midway between Tallahassee and Panama City. The CDP includes the unincorporated community of Alligator Harbor as well as all of St. James Island. The Alligator Point Taxpayers Association is the local civic group. The area is also known for Alligator Point’s sea turtles and its pristine beaches.
As of the 2010 census the population of Alligator Point was 226 down from 247 at the 2000 census.

The Alligator Point area was first inhabited by Native Americans of the Apalachicola tribe. The name “Alligator Point” is thought to be derived from the Seminole Indian word oki-waha meaning “alligator”.
The first European settlers arrived in the early 19th century. Alligator Point was used as a port for ships shipping cotton and timber from the Apalachicola area. In 1837 the U.S. Government built a lighthouse on the point to warn ships of the dangerous reefs.
Alligator Point was platted in 1880 but due to a lack of transportation to the area it was not developed until the 1890s when the St. Marks and Gulf Railway was built. Alligator Harbor was also developed as a port for the railway.
In 1895 a hurricane destroyed much of Alligator Point and the area was not rebuilt until the 1920s. Alligator Point became a popular tourist destination in the 1930s and many summer homes were built in the area.
Alligator Point was severely damaged by Hurricane Eloise in 1975 but was again rebuilt and is now a popular vacation spot.
The Alligator Point Yacht Basin located in Alligator Harbor is a full-service marina with 100 wet slips dry storage a ship store fuel dock and a launch ramp. The marina can accommodate boats up to 70 feet in length.
Alligator Point is also home to the Bald Point State Park which offers beach access hiking biking canoeing kayaking and fishing.
There are several restaurants and cafes in Alligator Point as well as a few small shops. There is also a public boat ramp and a small grocery store.

According to the United States Census Bureau the CDP has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km2) of which 2.9 square miles (7.5 km2) is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) (13.95%) is water.
