When To Repot Snake Plant Pups

Most snake plants will need to be repotted every 3-5 years. However if you notice that your snake plant is outgrowing its pot or that the roots are starting to come out of the drainage holes it’s time to repot.

To repot a snake plant first choose a pot that is only slightly larger than the current one. You don’t want to go too big or the plant will become root bound and start to suffer.

Next prepare the pot by adding some fresh potting mix. You can also add a little bit of sand or perlite to the mix to help with drainage.

Carefully remove the plant from its current pot and loosen any tangled or matted roots. trim off any damaged roots and then replant in the new pot. Be sure to firm the potting mix around the roots so that the plant is stable.

Water well and then place the plant in a bright but indirect light location. Allow the soil to dry out somewhat between watering.

That’s it! With a little bit of TLC your snake plant will thrive in its new home.
