Stand By Me is a 1986 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Wil Wheaton River Phoenix Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell. The film whose script was written by Raynold Gideon and Bruce A. Evans from Stephen King’s novella The Body is set in Castle Rock Maine in 1959. The film’s narrator Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton) recounts the summer day in 1960 when he and three of his friends Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O’Connell) set out to find the body of a missing boy.
Stand by Me was nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for River Phoenix and won four Grammy Awards including Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for Ben E. King’s song of the same name. The film is recognized by American Film Institute in these lists: 100 Years…100 Passions – Nominated 100 Years of Film Scores – Nominated and 100 Years…100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition) – Nominated. In 2016 the United States Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the National Film Registry finding it “culturally historically or aesthetically significant”.
