Venom was released in 2018 and was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for “intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action and for language”. The film was also released in IMAX and 3D.
Venom was directed by Ruben Fleischer and stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom Michelle Williams as Anne Weying Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake/Riot and Jenny Slate as Dora Skirth.
The plot of Venom follows Eddie Brock as he is exposed to an alien symbiote which bonds with him and gives him superpowers. Eddie then must use these powers to stop the evil Carlton Drake from infecting other people with symbiotes.
Venom received mixed reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has a 53% approval rating with a Critics Consensus that reads: “Venom’s first standalone movie turns out to be like the comics character in all the wrong ways – chaotic noisy and in desperate need of a stronger attachment to Spider-Man.”
However despite the mixed reviews Venom was a box office success grossing over $850 million worldwide.
