A drain snake is a long flexible piece of metal with a spiral shape that can be inserted into your drain to break up a clog. The most common type of drain snake is called an auger.
To use a drain snake start by taking off the drain cover. Then insert the snake into the drain and turn the handle to spin the snake. Keep turning the handle until you feel the snake hit the clog.
Once the snake hits the clog keep turning the handle until you feel the clog start to break up. Then pull the snake out of the drain and run some water to see if the drain is clear.
If the drain is still slow you may need to repeat the process a few times. If the drain is still clogged after a few attempts you may need to call a plumber.
In most cases a drain snake will do the trick. But if your drain is still slow after using a snake it’s probably time to call a plumber.
