Can Dogs Kill Snakes

According to many snake experts the answer is a resounding no. While a dog may be able to kill a snake it’s highly unlikely that they would be able to do so before the snake had a chance to bite them. In fact most dogs who tangle with snakes end up getting bitten and often require expensive medical treatment as a result.

That said there are always exceptions to the rule. In rare cases a dog may be able to kill a snake before it has a chance to strike. This is usually only possible if the dog is able to deliver a fatal blow to the snake’s head. Even then it’s not a guarantee that the snake will die immediately. It’s possible that the snake could still writhe and bite the dog in its death throes.

So while it’s technically possible for a dog to kill a snake it’s not something that we would recommend. If you see your dog playing with a snake it’s best to intervene and remove the snake from the area. If you’re lucky the snake will simply slither away and there will be no harm done. But it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
